EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

MATTHEW G. HALPERN, FSA, ATz

Matthew Halpern joined Beth Torah Benny Rok Campus as Executive Director in January 2021. In this role, Matthew works in partnership with the clergy and senior professional and volunteer leadership to oversee all synagogue operations, including membership engagement; marketing and communications; program management; and identifying new opportunities for growth across synagogue disciplines.

Prior to joining the BTBRC family, Matthew served as Executive Director of Temple Beth Shalom, Livingston, N.J. and Congregation Beth Sholom, Teaneck, N.J. He began his professional career in the Marketing & Communications Department of United Jewish Communities of MetroWest NJ.

A product of the Conservative movement, Matthew was active in USY and has served in various professional and volunteer capacities at the local, regional, and international level for more than 20 years.

Outside the synagogue world, Matthew is active with Maccabi USA and serves on the Executive Committee and as a co-chair for Marketing Committee. A multi-medalist across four Games as a bowler, Matthew has been a manager for Games in Berlin (2015) and Israel (2017) and led the delegation participating in the 2019 European Maccabi Games in Budapest. Matthew will return to Israel as the Associate Team Manager for the USA delegation to the 21st Maccabiah in July 2022.

Matthew is completing a term as Treasurer for NAASE (North American Association of Synagogue Executives) and will serve as a Vice President for the 2021-2023 term. Matthew has earned two certifications through NAASE: Fellow in Synagogue Administration in 2015 and the Amin Tzibur commission in 2018.

Matthew earned an MA in Corporate and Public Communications from Seton Hall University and a BA in Communications from William Paterson University.
